Isotopic exchange and ion association of trans-dichloro-bisethylenediamine iridium III chloride in aqueous solution

Abstract

The rate of exchange of chlorine-36 with trans-(Iren2Cl2)Cl was studied over a range of temperatures using 0.005 and 1.00 M hydrochloric acid solutions and the activation energy was calculated. In addition, the variation in exchange rate with chloride ion concentration and pH was studied at a constant temperature. The experimental results are explained in terms of ion-pair formation and a formation constant is calculated.
