Calculation of the molar polarization of adsorbed water vapour on α-Fe2O3

Abstract

The molar polarization of adsorbed water vapour on α-Fe2O3 at 15°C has been calculated from the composite measured dielectric properties by two theoretical schemes : (1) the spherical inserts model of McCowan and McIntosh,1 and (2) the solution model of Fiat, Folman, and Garbatski.2 Results from the first method showed the adsorbate to be either liquid-like or ice-like for an adsorbed water film of three B.E.T. layers. The second method gave inconclusive results.
