Electron spin relaxation of 8S ions in solution

Abstract

The Redfield relaxation matrix for modulation of a second rank spin-spin coupling tensor in an 8S ion has been derived by vector coupling methods. The e.s.r. line widths have been calculated as a function of the correlation time for the random perturbation and are compared with published data on the spectra of Gd3+ ions in solution. Experiments are suggested which might lead to a better understanding of the relaxation processes in these solutions.
