Thermodynamic behaviour of aqueous solutions of cyclic ethers. Part 1.—Enthalpies and volumes of mixing

Abstract

The excess enthalpies HE for mixtures of water with 1,4-dioxan, 1,3-dioxan and trimethylene oxide (oxetane), and the excess volumes of mixing VE for the same systems together with water + tetrahydrofuran have been measured as a function of composition and temperature. In most cases, measurements were made at 5, 25 and 45°C but for 1,4-dioxan (m.p. 11°C) measurements were made at 15°C. The results are discussed in the light of current ideas concerning aqueous solutions.
