1,2,3-Benzothiadiazoles. Part I. A simplified synthesis of 1,2,3-benzothiadiazoles

Abstract

Diazotisation of the benzothiazathiolium salts isolated from the reaction of sulphur monochloride with aromatic amines (Herz reaction) leads to the formation of 1,2,3-benzothiadiazoles. The scope of the reaction is discussed.
