2-Halogeno- and 2,7-dihalogeno-fluorenes and -fluorenones, 2,7,9-tribromofluorene, 5-halogenoacenaphthenes, and 5-bromoacenaphthenequinone have been synthesised from the parent hydrocarbons by the use of N-chloro- and N-bromo-succinimide in polar solvents. The n.m.r. spectra of the fluorenes and fluorenones are discussed.
