2-Oxazolin-4-ones and their conversion into 3-hydroxymethyl-1,2,4-triazoles

Abstract

2-Aryl-2-oxazolin-4-ones (I) react with hydrazine hydrate to yield 5-substituted-3-Hydroxymethyl-1,2,4-triazoles (II). 2-Aryl-2-oxazolin-4-ones and monosubstituted hydrazines give 1,3-disubstituted-5-hydroxymethyl-1,2,4-triazoles (III). These are compared with the known 1,5-disubstituted-3-hydroxymethyl-1,2,4-triazoles (IV).
