Pyrolysis of 17-oxgenated 16-methylene-20-oxosteroids. Part II. Oxidative cleavage of 2′-methylandrostano[17,16-c]furans

Abstract

2′-Methyl-3-keto-4-androsteno[17,16-c]furan (1) was converted into 16-formyl-16-dehydroprogesterone (4). The latter compound was also obtained from 16β-acetoxymethyl-16,17α-oxidoprogesterone (7b) in three steps. The aldehyde (4) was converted into the pyridazine (5).
