Oxidations involving silver. Part VIII. A study of the oxidation of α-amino-acids at silver electrodes

Abstract

The results of experiments on the anodic oxidation of α-amino-acids at silver electrodes are presented. The products are the corresponding nor-nitrile and a trace of the nor-aldehyde in the case of the branched chain α-amino-acid. The electrochemical oxidations are specific at silver electrodes. A simple reaction mechanism is suggested.
