Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of nitrosobenzenes. Anomalous chemical shifts in ortho-substituted nitrosobenzenes

Abstract

The n.m.r. spectra of ortho-substituted nitrosobenzenes have been measured and the chemical shifts of o-aromatic, o-methyl, o-methoxyl, and o-t-butyl protons have been found to be anomalous. These anomalous chemical shifts are explained mainly in terms of the large magnetic anisotropy of the nitroso-group.
