Reactivity parameters and aromatic systems. Part I. Detritiation rates in fluoranthene

Abstract

Rates of detritiation in trifluoroacetic acid have been measured for the five non-equivalent positions in the non-alternant hydrocarbon fluoranthene. Rates at 70·0° times 107k(sec.–1) for detritiation at each position are as follows: 1-, 27·0; 2-, 6·7; 3-, 842·1; 7-, 23·5; and 8-, 415·8. The results correlate best with S.C.F.(S.P.O.) values. The concept of ‘crossing’ is not thought to be significant.
