Crystal structure of the 3,6-bis(dicyanomethylene)cyclohexa-1,4-diene–hexamethylbenzene complex

Abstract

Crystals of the 1:1 complex formed between 3,6-bis(dicyanomethylene)cyclohexa-1,4-diene (bdch) and hexamethylbenzene (hmb) are monoclinic, space group /2/m with a= 8·57, b= 13·62, c= 9·23 Å, β= 94·11° and Z= 2. The structure was refined by the block-diagonal least-squares method using 734 independent reflections measured photographically. The structure consists of sheets of bdch molecules and sheets of hmb stacked alternately approximately parallel to the 10[1 with combining macron] lattice planes. The mean separation of the molecular planes is 3·55 Å.
