Radical anions of quinoline and isoquinoline

Abstract

The e.s.r. spectra of the quinoline and isoquinoline radical anions in dimethoxyethane are presented. A complete spectral analysis as well as the assignment of the hyperfine splitting constants to the seven non-equivalent positions has been carried out with the help of the monomethyl derivatives. The attribution of the coupling constants in asymmetric molecules only on the basis of MO calculations is discussed and criticised. A survey of the spin polarisation parameters lead to the conclusion that the QNN value is almost negligible in respect to QNN.
