Superoxide-bridged binuclear complexes of rhodium(III)

Abstract

The preparations are described of the blue or purple complex compounds of formulae [ClL4Rh·O2·RhL4Cl]Y3 where L = pyridine or γ-picoline and Y = an anion, and [(H2O)L4Rh·O2·RhL4(H2O)]Y5. The presence of the superoxide bridge is demonstrated by magnetic, spectroscopic, and analytical data. Acid-base equilibria for the aquo-complexes are mentioned. An account is given of the reduction forming the peroxo-bridged dimer [ClL4Rh·O2·RhL4Cl]Y2.
