Half cell potential of the Pd,Pd2+ Couple in 3·94-molal perchloric acid and the entropy of Pd2+(aq)

Abstract

The formal potential of the Pd(s),Pd2+(aq) couple in 3·94m-HClO4 has been determined at 5° intervals from 10 to 40 °C. From the data the entropy of Pd2+(aq) relative to S(H+,aq)= 0 is calculated to be 25 ± 6 cal. deg.–1 mole–1 at 25 °C. The entropy value of Pd2+(aq) is estimated to be 7 ± 10 cal. deg.–1 mole–1 at zero ionic strength and 25 °C.
