Reactions of complex compounds of cobalt(III). Part V. Studies on the mechanism of oxidative degradation of co-ordinated salicylic acid
Abstract
The mechanism of chelate ring contraction in the conversion by nitric acid or permanganate of the salicylatobisethylenediaminecobalt(III) cation (A) into the oxalatobisethylenediaminecobalt(III) cation(F) has been investigated by carbon-14 labelling techniques and from the optical activity of the compounds. A chemical correlation of configuration [(+)-A =(+)-(F)] is presented on the basis of the permanganate reaction.
