Crystal and molecular structure of the tetrahedrally co-ordinated complex dichloro[oxydiethylenebis(diphenylphosphine)]nickel(II)

Abstract

The crystal and molecular structure of dichloro[oxydiethylenebis(diphenylphosphine)]nickel(II) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray methods and has been refined to R 5·3%. The crystals are orthorhombic, space group P212121, a= 9·050(3), b= 15·328(4), c= 19·600(5)Å, Z= 4. The co-ordination polyhedron around the nickel is a distorted tetrahedron with Cl–Ni–Cl and P–Ni–P angles of 127·1(0·2)° and 107·1(0·1)° respectively. The mean Ni–Cl and Ni–P bond-lengths are 2·220(4) and 2·315(3)Å. The oxygen atom of the chelate ring is 3·64 Å from the nickel atom and is thus not co-ordinated to the metal.
