Complexes of 8-amino-2-methylquinoline with nickel(II)

Abstract

8-Amino-2-methylquinoline (maq) has been prepared and complexes with nickel(II) obtained. The complexes, Ni maq2X2,xH2O (X = Cl, Br, NO3, ClO4), Ni maq2XClO4(X = Cl, I, NO3), and Ni maq X2,xH2O (X = Cl, Br, I) are high-spin and the possibility of polymeric octahedral structures for these complexes is discussed on the basis of conductivities and i.r. and visible spectra. Conductance measurements and the visible spectra of Ni maq2I22H2O indicate that this complex is possibly tetrahedral with non-co-ordinated iodines.
