Benzimidoyl radicals: free-radical reactions of benzaldimines

Abstract

Benzaldimines, ArCH = NR (R = But or PhCO2), on treatment with di-isopropyl peroxydicarbonate in warm benzene, generates benzimidoyl radicals, ArĊ= NR, which subsequently decompose to give benzonitrile together with the radical R.
