The catalytic oxidation of propene to hexa-1,5-diene and to benzene

Abstract

Thallium oxide catalyses the oxidative dimerisation of propene to hexa-1,5-diene, while indium oxide catalyses the oxidative dimerisation and subsequent cyclisation to produce benzene; both reactions are selective, even though they both proceed in part in the gas phase at higher temperatures.
