The cholestane backbone rearrangement: isomerisation at C-20

Abstract

The backbone-rearranged cholest-13(17)-ene (II) undergoes epimerisation at C-20 under acidic conditions to give a 1 : 1 mixture of 20(R)- and 20(S)-isomers.
