The synthesis of amidinotriphenylphosphonium salts from the very reactive and novel imide bromides R1N![[double bond, length as m-dash]](https://www.rsc.org/images/entities/char_e001.gif)
C(Br)R2 and iminophosphoranes Ph3PNR is reported, and variable-temperature n.m.r. spectra prove a fluxional structure for the amidinophosphonium salts.
