An insertion reaction involving pentaborane(9). The synthesis of the tetradecahydrononaborate(1–) ion, B9H14–
Abstract
The synthesis of the nido-B9H14– ion has been achieved by an insertion reaction into the B5 cage of pentaborane(9) at low temperatures using an alkalimetal hydroborate, the results also providing strong evidence that the B9H14– ion is an intermediate in the formation of the closo-B12H122– ion.
