New reactions with persulphate: oxidation of o-phenylphenoxyacetic acids

Abstract

Intramolecular cyclisation of o-phenylphenoxymethyl radicals, formed by persulphate oxidation of o-phenylphenoxyacetic acid, yields cyclohexadienyl radicals which are either oxidised to dibenzopyran and a related bis-acetal, or dimerise.
