Group IV–cobalt complexes as catalysts for silylation and cyclic ether polymerization

Abstract

Dicobalt octacarbonyl was found to catalyse the reaction: R32SiH + XH [graphic omitted] XSiR32+ H2(1) where X = R1O, R1CO2, R1CONH + R31SiO but not when X = ArO (R = alkyl, Ar = aryl), while tetrahydrofuran was polymerized to poly-(1,4-butylene oxide)(ca. 50,000 molecular weight) in the presence of dicobalt octacarbonyl and a silane.
