The dissociation constants of amino-acids in deuterium oxide

Abstract

The isotope effect log KH/KD for the first dissociation constants of the amino-acids in the series H3N+[CH2]xCO2H, 1 ⩽x⩽ 5, and [CH3]yN+H3–y CH2CO2H, 0 ⩽y⩽ 3, shows a good linear correlation with pKH.
