Aqueous alkali converts either cis- or trans-1,4-dibenzyl-1,4-diphenyl-1,4-diphosphoniocyclohexane di-bromide into a mixture of both cis- and trans-1,4-diphenyl-1,4-diphosphacyclohexane PP′-dioxides.
