Identification and determination of sucrose octa-acetate and cetrimide in industrial methylated spirit preparations

Abstract

Industrial methylated spirit is used with a wide variety of other ingredients in many cosmetics, toiletry articles and similar preparations. Under the regulations governing the use of industrial methylated spirit, denaturants must be added. The identification and semi-quantitative determination by thin-layer chromatography of two commonly used denaturants are described.
