The determination of ethanol in essences, tinctures and toilet preparations by gas chromatography

Abstract

A simple gas-chromatographic method for the determination of ethanol in essences, tinctures and toilet preparations has been developed by means of which the number of samples examined each day can be at least doubled compared with the distillation method. Most of the samples can be analysed directly on the gas chromatograph without any preliminary treatment, other than that of mixing with the internal standard. The results obtained by the gas-chromatographic method compare well with those obtained by the distillation method. A statistical evaluation of the method is presented.
