Absolute rate of recombination of CF2Cl· radicals

Abstract

When 1,3-dichlorotetrafluoroacetone is photolyzed in the presence of undecafluorocyclohexane, the CF2Cl· radicals produced in the primary photochemical step abstract hydrogen atoms to produce chlorodifluoromethane. An investigation of this reaction under the conditions of intermittent illumination has been carried out to determine the rate of recombination of CF2Cl· radicals. The determined value of 1.31 × 1013 cm3 mol–1 s–1 for the rate constant is between those for CF3· and CCl3· radicals.
