Reaction heats of organic compounds. Part 6.—Heats of addition of some alcohols to 1,1-dichloro-2,2-difluoroethylene

Abstract

A calorimeter suitable for measuring the enthalpy changes for gas-liquid reactions at 25°C and constant pressure is described. Measurements of the heats of addition of methanol, ethanol, n-propyl, and isopropyl alcohol, to 1,1-dichloro-2,2-difluoroethylene in alcoholic potassium hydroxide solutions at 25°C are reported. The data were used to show how variations in the basicity and size of the alcohol affect the stability of the resulting saturated ether.
