Peptide kinetics. Part 8.—Acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of N-acyl glycines

Abstract

A study of the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of formyl-glycine, acetyl-glycine and propionyl-glycine is reported. Values of the first-order rate constants have been determined at three temperatures for each N-acyl glycine and values of ΔH and ΔS calculated. The results for the N-acyl glycines are discussed in relation to glycyl-glycine and polyglycine. Revised values of the rate constants for the acid catalyzed hydrolysis of glycyl-glycine are also reported and their effect on a semi-quantitaitve rule noted.
