Rotational analysis of bands of a system A1Σ+–X1Σ+ of gaseous CaS

Abstract

A system of red degraded bands assigned to CaS has been observed in absorption at about 1900°C. The rotational analysis of six bands lying in the region 6200–7200 Å shows that the transition is 1Σ–1Σ, in which the lower state is probably the ground state. Constants, in cm–1 for the two states are as follows: [graphic omitted] With µ(40Ca32S)= 17.7674 a.m.u., re(X1Σ+)= 2.3178 Å.
