Magnetic circular dichroism of the tetrachlorocobaltate ion

Abstract

The absorption and magnetic circular dichroism spectra of the tetrachloro-cobaltate ion have been measured as a function of temperature in a single crystal. The major contribution to the Faraday effect of the 4A24T1(P) transition is temperature dependent. The source of this effect and the assignment of the spectra are discussed.
