Nitrosoalkanes react quantitatively with diazomethane to yield a new series of nitrones, unsubstituted at the α-carbon. Their adducts with several 1,3-dipolarophiles are described. N-Methylenemesitylarnine N-oxide slowly undergoes dimerisation and oxidation to a yellow ethylenedi-imine di-N-oxide.
