The products formed in the reaction between 1,1′-bis-(NN-dimethylaminomethyl)ferrocene and butyl-lithium followed by benzophenone have been separated and identified. Lithiation at cyclopentadienyl ring positions adjacent to the substituent is favoured and dilithiation occurs to an appreciable extent.
