Oxidation of (±)-armepavine methiodide

Abstract

The major product formed by oxidising (±)-armepavine methiodide with either silver nitrate or potassium ferricyanide is shown by chromatographic and spectroscopic comparisons with synthetic material to be 5,5′-bis-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6,7-dimethoxy-2-methylisoquinolin-1-ylmethyl)-2,2′-dihydroxybiphenyl dimethiodide.
