(+)-Catechin-3-gallate and a polymeric proanthocyanidin from Bergenia species

Abstract

The isolation of (+)-catechin 3-gallate and a polymeric proanthocyanidin from Bergenia crassifolia and B. cordifolia is described. Some properties of the polymer are discussed and a biosynthetic pathway for its formation is proposed.
