Optical rotatory dispersion and circular dichroism. Part LVIII. Chemistry of santonene. Part II. Autoxidation products and other derivatives of santonene

Abstract

The o.r.d. and c.d. have been measured for a large number of derivatives of santonene [6-hydroxy-3-oxoeudesma-1,5,7(11)-trien-13-oic acid 13 → 6 lactone] and have been used to assign the sterochemistry of many compounds. The chromophores studied include αβ-unsaturated lactones and more extended conjugated systems, αβ-unsaturated ketones, cross-conjugated ketones, and combinations of these types.
