Hydride-transfer reactions with lithium, sodium, and potassium iso-propoxides: the reduction of steroid ketones and related compounds

Abstract

Lithium isopropoxide is an efficient hydride-donor for the reduction of many ketones. Sodium and potassium isopropoxides are less effective. Cyclohexanones, including steroid ketones, give different axial : equatorial ratios of alcohols, depending upon the isopropoxide used.
