Formation of acyclic trimers from the oligomerisation of butadiene with cobalt catalysts

Abstract

The butadiene trimers, 3,6-dimethyldeca-1,4,7,9-tetraene (II), 3,8-dimethyldeca-1,4,6,9-tetraene (III), and 3-methylundeca-1,5,8,10-tetraene (IV) have been isolated from the oligomerisation products of butadiene using a cobalt chloride–triethyl aluminium catalyst and their structures confirmed.
