Cyclic meso-ionic compounds. Part VII. Electric dipole moments of some meso-ionic 1,3,4-thiadiazoles

Abstract

The electric dipole moments of some meso-ionic 1,3,4-thiadiazoles and three similar compounds, with either endo- or exo-sulphur replaced by oxygen, have been measured and analysed to give the magnitude and direction of the thiadiazole ring system moment. The results support the formulation of these compounds as meso-ionic and show that exocyclic sulphur carries a larger negative charge than does exocyclic oxygen.
