Association constants of some charge-transfer complexes between hexamethylbenzene and 1-substituted 3,5-dinitrobenzenes in solution

Abstract

Association constants for the charge-transfer complexes of hexamethylbenzene with 1-X-3,5-dinitrobenzenes (where X = NMe2, OMe, CF3, CN, OEt, CO2Et, CO2Me, or H) in carbon tetrachloride solution have been determined by an n.m.r. method. A reasonable correlation of association constant with Hammett σmeta constant is obtained. The possible orientation of the two components in the complex is considered.
