Charge-transfer complexes. Part VII. Solvent-induced changes in the spectra of Wurster's cations
Abstract
Changes observed in the absorption spectrum of p-phenylenediamine bromide in dry isopropyl alcohol on the addition of a low-polarity solvent have been interpreted as being due to aggregation of ion pairs. Addition of highly polar solvents gives rise to a different change which is shown to be due to a disproportionation of the radical-ion to give the dipositive ion and the parent p-phenylenediamine.
