Acid-catalysed hydrolysis of alkyl benzoates

Abstract

The kinetics of the hydrolysis reactions of several new isopropyl and methyl benzoates have been followed in concentrated sulphuric acid and in dilute oleum. Hammett σρ plots are used to establish the AAl1 and AA c1 mechanisms.
