Two new oxohalides of tungsten

Abstract

Halogen exchange between phosphorus pentabromide and WOCl4 forms the mixed oxohalide WVIOBr2Cl2. The 1 : 1 bromine:chlorine ratio is retained on reduction to WV2O2Br3Cl3. The structures, magnetic properties, and i.r. spectra are compared with those of the corresponding tungsten oxochlorides and oxobromides. Molybdenum oxotetrachloride did not undergo reactions of this type.
