Vibrational spectra of 1 : 1-adducts of phosphine, methylphosphine, dimethylphosphine, and trimethylphosphine with titanium tetrachloride

Abstract

The vibrational spectra of the title compounds are discussed in terms of their probable shapes. Cryoscopic molecular weight data taken in conjunction with the spectroscopic data show the adduct TiCl4,Me3P to be monomeric in benzene. It is probable that for TiCl4,Me3P the structure is based on a trigonal-bipyramidal distribution with axial trimethylphosphine. With the other species the phosphine ligand is probably in an equatorial position. Matrix-isolation Raman studies on TiCl4,PH3 in tetramethylsilane are reported.
