Complexes of copper(II) with o-nitrosophenols (monoximes of ortho-benzoquinones)

Abstract

Six complexes of the type Cu(qo)2 have been prepared, where qoH represents one of the following: 4-chloro-2-nitrosophenol, 4-bromo-2-nitrosophenol, 4-methyl-2-nitrosophenol, 5-methoxy-2-nitrosophenol, 1-nitroso-2-naphthol, and 2-nitroso-1-naphthol. The properties, magnetic susceptibilities, and electronic, i.r. and mass spectra of the complexes have been investigated. The complexes are probably polymeric in the solid state, and may be dimeric in solution; but they each form a 1:1 adduct with pyridine, Cu(qo)2,py. These adducts are monomeric in solution and presumably contain five co-ordinate copper.
