Preparation of bis-(π-cyclopentadienyl)hafnium bis-tetrahydroborate, and deuteriation studies on group IVA tetrahydroborate systems

Abstract

Bis-(π-cyclopentadienyl)hafnium bis-tetrahydroborate, (π-C₅H₅)₂Hf(BH₄)₂, has been prepared and characterised. The bonding between the metal and the tetrahydroborate group is compared in the series of compounds involving titanium, zirconium, and hafnium, (π-C₅H₅)₂TiBH₄, (π-C₅H₅)₂Zr(BH₄)₂, and (π-C₅H₅)₂Hf(BH₄)₂, by a study of their i.r. spectra and those of the corresponding tetradeuterioborates.
