Rate constants for reaction of the chloromethylidyne radical with olefins, alkynes, chloroalkanes, hydrogen, and oxygen

Abstract

Decay of chloromethylidyne (CCI) in flash-photolysed CF2CCl2+ N2 mixtures was monitored by kinetic spectroscopy. Rate constants for reactions at 298°± 3°K with olefins, acetylene, and propyne correlate with their ionization potentials, suggesting that reaction occurs by attack of the π-systems. Rate constants were determined for some reactions of CCl with saturated compounds, hydrogen and oxygen.
